Bosch Ariston GL6 Review – What you need to know before buying
If you find that the GL2.5 and GL4 are too small for you? Do consider the Bosch Ariston GL6 that has a higher capacity. In this review I will help you to understand, acquire information and compare prices to get the best deals available for this Bosch water heater.
So without further a due, I have summarised the benefits, a mode of price comparison and the pros and cons of owning this unit.
Benefits Of Owning A Bosch Ariston GL6
Instantaneous hot water
This Bosch water heater can store up to 7 gallons of hot water, and are perfect for supplying instantaneous hot water for a single sink faucet or a shower.
The operating temperature range of this unit is 65 Degrees Fahrenheit to 145 Degrees Fahrenheit and a maximum water pressure of 150 psi.
Like the other models, no additional hard wiring is required to power your unit. The Bosch Ariston GL6 has a 1500-watt heating element and can be plugged into any 120V standard outlet.
Lightweight and functional aesthetics
The Bosch Arison GL6 has a slightly larger and compact design; Length (L) x Width (W) x Height (H) 20L x 21W x 17H Inches and weigh a total of 30 pounds. Therefore it might not be small enough to be installed under your sink.
The tank for the Bosch Ariston GL6, similar to that of the GL2.5 and GL4, has the same excellent insulation that gives this unit a better heating efficiency and reduces the cost from standby power to almost negligible.
The glass-lined tank of this unit also confers a longer lifespan to your unit making it a more worthwhile investment.
Versatility in deployment
This unit can be deployed independently or as a part of a larger heating system. It has also been installed in RVs thus showcasing its versatility.
The Bosch Ariston GL6 can be deployed in two different modes; horizontal and vertical. When deployed in the horizontal mode, the capacity is 7 gallons while the capacity is around 5 gallons if it is deployed in the vertical mode.
Customer Reviews on Bosch Ariston GL6
I have read many customer reviews for Bosch Ariston GL6 and have summarised them below.
The Pros 🙂
Most of the positive comments range from its space-saving capability; the Bosch GL6 might be too big to be installed under the sink or kitchen cabinet but there have been successful cases of installation under the sink. It has also been mentioned as a perfect choice for installation for a spare bathroom or even to provide hot water to shower your pets.
Other pros include ease of installation, convenient adjustment of temperature and steady flow of water are positive feedbacks that have been mentioned by consumers. Therefore the Bosch Ariston GL6 has been installed to provide heated water for dishwashers and showers by consumers.
There were no sudden spikes in utility bills after installation of this unit so proving that having a tank water heater will not necessary increase your energy usage especially from standby costs. So ultimately you have to determine which heated water system is best for you.
The Cons 🙁
There are some cons about the Bosch Ariston GL6 that I have to highlight. Like all tank water heaters, it will be better to have a drain pan below your unit to prevent any leakage.
Even though the manufacturer says that the capacity of the Bosch Ariston GL6 is more; 7 gallons in horizontal mode, around 5 gallons in vertical mode, these have been proven to be unfounded. The actual capacity was found to be around 5 gallons regardless of either mode.
The thermostat that comes with this unit is installed internally. To gain access to it for adjustment of temperature, you have to remove a cover plate and a few screws making it a possibly troublesome task especially if you need to do it often.
Even though it is a plug and play unit, a dedicated 120V power outlet is required for this unit; this heater requires 1500 watts, and it is not advisable to share that power point with your dishwasher, microwave or toaster to prevent any short circuit from happening in your household.
Your regional water supply has to be taken into account as well; if it is high in minerals, you might need to clean out your heating element more often. Like all tank water heaters, sacrificial anodes will also need to be replaced to prevent your tanks from rusting out. This will add to your maintenance costs so make sure that your supplier includes these conditions in the warranty.
Other shortcomings include isolated cases of bad threading reported for fittings provided and bad customer service. However Bosch, being a multi-national company, will have ironed them out as there are no recent complaints pertaining to these issues.
